The subject says it all !!!

They have 4 arrows for sale for 48.00 debating ordering a set so i can get one checked out. Any ideas ?

I believe one of the upper ups had pointed out the sight when it just opened. Just noticed they finally sell the arrows and replacement blunts as well.

I would be very interested in seeing these. I would just start by ordering 4 though, until we know how we feel about them.

Eric had originally posted the link. I actually emailed them to ask about buying the arrows, but they never wrote back.

The fact that they sell replacement blunts worries me a little. Obviously the foam is exposed and will get damaged, but in the safety rules for the game you are supposed to make sure the foam is fully attached before firing the arrow. Which leads me to believe the foam detaches easily, in which case you are shooting an arrow with a round bit of plastic at the end, if the foam comes off.

I don't want to pre-judge it too much. It's possible we will pass these as is, it's possible we will require some kind of modification (e.g. tape the head), it's possible they will not pass.

Aside from the immediate issue of the arrow hitting you, we also have to look at not just if they fail but how. E.g. if the foam does come off, what are you left with? Is it still the same size striking surface, or is there any chance it could just be the shaft?

But all that said, if we could get a premade arrow that is consistent, that is in many ways better than expecting that all handmade arrows are made to spec, when we can only spot-check them.

Agreed. I would definitely be more inclined to be an archer if I didn't have to make every single arrow by hand. Even a modified version of a mass-produced would be a good step forward. I hope these work out! The next question is if they sell bows to go along with the arrows...

Anyway... if someone wants to buy a 4-pack and donate them for testing purposes, we'll give you UP for it.

Their bows are 28 lbs draw, a bit over our limit (25 lbs).

Does the 3 pounds really matter that much? I'm not an exprt on bows so I don't know what the difference is. Also if these arrows pass the test I would like to know, It would make me more inclined to take the archery skill.

Thanks

While the number doesnt seem like a huge difference numerically, getting hit by those extra 3 lbs of pull weight can make a light, bouncy hit feel like a "check your swings" level swing, especially at the shorter ranges... Then again, if we started making allowances for 3 lbs, then people might ask for 2lbs more which puts us at 30, and it could keep going from there.... It really is for the best, safety-wise.

You just have to set a limit somewhere. 3 lbs is 10% more power though.

With a bow there are also other factors like the draw length that can also interact with the arrows. For example overdrawing will increase the power, but if the arrows are short that may prevent overdrawing.

Anyway... I don't expect there is anything special about their bows. For LARP purposes you might be better off with something on the small side, for ease of carry. And cheap so it won't be too upsetting if it falls victim to weather and combat. Like www.amazon.com or perhaps if you want to look authentic www.amazon.com

Ok, so there are people running Archery Tag at the CT Faire this year (not selling the gear though). We went over en masse from HSE and tried it out. Based on examining the equipment, and getting hit at short range, and Mike generously volunteering to get hit in the eye (by putting his head in the wrong place at the wrong time), the verdict is that these are totally acceptable for us. It is like a sword hit, and not even a particularly hard one. I'm even going to pass their standard bow if you want to purchase their package deal (which is $149 for bow and 3 arrows). (Have not seen the new Celtic style bow, probably would allow it as well.)
