Seems really neat, but a hindrance at the same time.

It seems really cool, but it just wouldn't be the same.

The touch screen portion is different, but I flipped my 46" Aquos over and put a piece of clear acrylic over it and gamed that way. It actually was fantastic. No miniatures, video and photo library at disposal and all the coolness of combining table top RPG and TV...

Personally, I think the Droid of iPhone are a couple of the coolest tools released in years to be used at larps. Any of the Staff doing this? Bluetooth and apps make my old plot mind start to turn...

I've also seen people do that for the map, and still use miniatures. Projectors are more common, though. There's actually a lot of software for just that purpose.

I know at FI, Rob can check the autoforge software from his phone. There's temptation to use these phones as props, since it is getting easier and easier to program them. Not to mention apps that are prop-worthy (e.g. I have a ___ detector app). It would probably also be possible to use older, cheaper PDAs. You do have to think about loss or damage.

In practice even keeping actual computers running and useful at a LARP is a challenge. Limited or no net access, very large areas mean most stuff is going to be out of wifi range, many applications need custom software. We are still experimenting in many ways. I would love to do much more, especially as RFID gets cheaper, but we aren't there yet.
