New Larp Club - Help Appreciated

Hello from Dave (Kaius Aalto in game).

It seems that I have finally convinced my high school that LARPing will happen in some form.

I could use your help. If you have any spare boffer weapons that you would be willing to part with, they would be much appreciated.

(Sorry, no UP for this one)

Thanks in advance for any donations.

When I intro'd my Boy Scout troop to LARPing, we didn't use the expensive, hard-to-find, oft ignored 5/8 inch pipe foam.
short swords were better to start (less torque and halo), so we bought 10' lengths of PVC to make 4 each, and the $1 per 6-foot pipe foam at Job Lot.

Then the camporee we were prepping this for jumped to 200 scouts, making for a grand melee that made sunday noon MJ look like the Ladies Tea......

...yeah, I handed my two short swords to a few people at school, just to let them see the basics of what they were getting into.

Me: Here, hit me with this on the arm. That is what we are talking about... etc.
Asst. Principal: Oh ok..

Me: Here, hit me with this on the arm. That is what we are talking about... etc.
Security Guard: Oh ok..

Me: Here, hit me with this on the arm. That is what we are talking about... etc.
Principal: (Takes the other sword and starts sparring with me - in his office)

Update:

Started with 11 kids and 2 swords. By the end of the day I had 16 and likely to go up.

We will have 24 new swords by November...

Thanks for the Help,

Dave

...in the wake of Administrator arrests that occurred locally concerning a Fight Club, my union rep recommended that I talk to the Principal just to make sure thinks were OK.

LARP club is still a GO (and we currently have 5 or 6 regulars), but staff agreed that we put together some kind of informational form for the kids to take home.

I AM ASKING FOR SUGGESTIONS. Here is the framework that I have below:

Who is welcome: All PHS students who are able to fully demonstrate Safety for each other – see below.

Time and Place: Mondays until 3pm to 3:30pm. Meetings may be weather-dependent.

What to Bring: We have about 8 LARP-boffer swords, and can make more. If a student has made their own equipment it is subject to Advisor approval. Bring appropriate outdoor clothing.

Safety: (I was thinking of using the 3 MJ calls here)

Design: (Appropriate Costuming?)

Acting: (What are basic rules- being mindful that these are teen minors)

Dale-

Being an old scout myself, I recall the joy of (during Water Polo), being in the lead of roughly 50 fellow scouts on our provisional team... and me yelling:

CHARGE!

(Back when Lake of Isles was a Boy Scout camp)
